Tallian Drops Democratic Gubernatorial Bid

State Sen. Karen Tallian has dropped her bid for the Democratic nomination for governor in 2016, leaving just former House Speaker John Gregg as the lone Democratic candidate at this point. Tallian made the decision after the AFL-CIO endorsed Gregg's candidacy today. Gregg also picked up the support of the United Steelworkers over the weekend. Tallian had raised very little money for her bid and without any key labor support, her candidacy faced great odds. State Education Supt. Glenda Ritz dropped her gubernatorial bid a little more than a week ago after she decided to run for re-election instead. Former Evan Bayh aide, Tom Sugar, is still pondering whether to enter the race.

Gary, if Sugar runs, can Sen. Bayh transfer the $10 million to Sugar without penalty? I realize that it would be tantamount to going "all in," but Sen. Bayh does have the biggest campaign account among former federal lawmakers.

Bayh would never transfer that much money to any other candidate under any circumstances. That's why he's still sitting on that pile of money after all these years. His committee could contribute to Sugar's campaign though.

Let me back that up. Bayh would donate all the money if it was going to one of his sons' future campaigns.

Why? Are they gonna run for office in their home state...the Commonwealth of Virginia? ; )

Carlos - He just might. Considering the one-term limit for Governors in Virginia, the Twins could easily engage in VA politics. If Virginia would elect a political hackjob like McAuliffe then a Bayh is possible. Evan & Susan could split their chances by moving one of their sons up to Prince George or Montgomery County Maryland and take controls of the Democratic machine there also.
